The next session of our Tejas District North Star Scout Leader training has been scheduled. The February 13th session is an all-day, in-town activity and February 26-28th is the Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills(IOLS) campout at Worth Ranch. This training is for all Boy Scout troop leaders and for Webelos leaders who will be crossing over into Boy Scout troops. See the attached course flyer for details. Also, please print a few copies to share with your fellow Scouters.
Louie Nash has again volunteered to make the slideshow honoring all of our 2009-2010 Eagles (since last year's dinner). He has provided the following guideline for submitting pictures for your Eagle Scout.
Deadline for submittal is Tuesday, March 16th. Please send the pictures in .jpg format. You may submit several pictures, but not more than 5MB at a time, since that stresses his network. Submit to louie [at] nashfolk [dot] net. If you have questions, you may e-mail Louie or call him at 817-538-5755.
Your Webmaster, with assistance from the District Committee, has made an attempt to update the unit information on the Tejas Units' pages. New fields have been added for your Unit Commissioner and Charter Organization Representative (COR). Please check all the information posted for your unit and let the webmaster know if there are any errors or omissions.
To celebrate 98 years of Scouting in the city, the Arlington Historical Society will host a Scouting exhibit featuring uniforms, patches, and camping gear throughout the years. This would be an excellent field trip for any Arlington Scout unit.
The free exhibit opens Sunday, from 2 to 4 pm, at the Historic Fielder House, 1616 W. Abram St. Special presentations, such as a camp set-up demonstration, are planned throughout the exhibit, which runs through March 31. The Fielder House is open from 10am to 2pm Tuesdays through Saturdays.
The District Dinner will feature a silent auction with many exciting items. Among the items listed so far is a super Vineyard Grand Auditorium model acoustic electric guitar. This guitar features a solid spruce top, a built in electronics package, including not only a pickup system, but an electronic tuner as well. The guitar comes complete with a plush lined, hard shell case.

Committee Reports followed:
The Tejas District is accepting nominations for the 2009-2010 District Award of Merit to be presented at the District Recognition Dinner in March.
Justin Wilburn was formally introduced as Tejas District's new District Executive (DE) at the Cub Scout Roundtable last night (Tuesday, 5 Jan '10). The DE is a professional Scouter, employed by the Longhorn Council and assigned to provide direct support to the district. The DE along with volunteers District Chairman and District Commissioner make up the district's "Key Three".
The District Merit Badge Counselors list is currently being updated by the Advancement Committee and the official list has been submitted to the webmasters and is now (2-5-10) being uploaded to the on-line system.
Note, only approved counselors can sign a Scout off on merit badge requirements, so please verify those signing off your Scouts with the official list, once it is available.
FYI, Roger Boettger is our District Advancement Chairman.
The District Committee understands the value of an up-to-date and accurate website and recognizes that the current obsolete information is of no value. It is acknowledged that unless the district's Scouters can count on accurate information, the website is essentially useless. If a Scouter finds any information to be inaccurate, then all other information (correct or not) is suspect, and thus defeats the value of this wonderful resource.
